Electric Crepe Makers vs. Crepe pans

Those who are into the business of crepe making understand that making perfect crepes requires more than a few ingredients and a frying pan. There is skill involved, and you have to be practiced to get it right every time. There are a few tools that make it easier to create perfect crepes; a crepe pan, or electric crepe makers.

Crepes has an easy introduction. The batter for these beautiful and delicate pancakes is easy to put together and is made with items found in any kitchen; milk, flour, egg and butter. From there things get a little more technical. Pouring batter on the pan, ensuring it is evenly and flatly spread, keeping it from sticking, knowing when to flip it over, doing so without tearing, folding or otherwise destroying the crepe and cooking it evenly on both sides are some of the obstacles to creating perfect crepes.

Using a crepe pan, several of these obstacles are immediately overcome. The pan is flat and round, and it is easy to see how to spread or swirl the batter. Because the pan is flat, the crepes will not be curled up on the sides and the heat will distribute more evenly. Also, a crepe pan has an excellent non-stick coating that ensures that it is easy to remove from the pan for flipping.

Though the manner the crepe pan gets the job of making perfect crepes done conveniently, it cannot be comparable to the electric crepe makers. These appliances have a thermostat regulating the temperature. The do not need to be flipped at all because they have plates cooking both top and bottom simultaneously. This means that crepes are cooked more evenly and quickly. Also, a ready light lets you know when they are perfectly browned, so you don't have to worry about burning them or checking up on them (lifting a corner at the risk or tearing or folding the crepe).

There is no doubt about it that electric crepe makers offer the job of crepe making convenient yet simply practical. Perfectly browned crepes made quickly and efficiently is what you get with electric crepe makers. What you don't get is the traditional feel of flipping the crepes yourself.

One other key factor for deciding to own a crepe making helper is the consideration of price. A crepe pan is less expensive than electric crepe makers. However, some of the crepe makers are rather inexpensive. The question is, do you trust a cheap kitchen appliance to perform its function properly and consistently over time? If not, you can buy some top quality electric crepe makers, but they can get rather pricey. If money is an issue, this will definitely not be the way to go.

Now is the time. If you like doing things the old fashioned way, the crepe pan is the perfect tool for you. If you're a kitchen appliance lover, or appreciate having most of the work done for you, go with the electric crepe maker.
